A 63-year-old Domino’s pizza deliveryman from Birmingham, Alabama, was reportedly killed during a robbery and police say they believe he may have been set up.
Najeh Masaeid, a father of four, was discovered dead in a hallway at the District at the Summit apartments near the Summit shopping center on Sunday night after he was sent to deliver a pizza to an apartment that turned out to be vacant, reports AL.com.
Police say the man, who was born in Jordan, was killed by a blunt force trauma to the head, but they have not yet revealed what object was used to kill him. His grieving co-workers say the murder was for absolutely no reason, as they didn’t believe Masaeid had more than $20 on him.
“He came here for the American Dream and it was shattered by American greed,” his daughter, Jordan Hosey, told AL.com. “Where’s the justice in that?”
Masaeid has worked at the same Domino’s pizzeria for 15 years after moving to the United States nearly 20 years ago. He often worked 80-hour weeks to pay his bills and was reportedly an honest man who paid his taxes and obtained his citizenship legally.
"He never once went to the government for money, although his legal status entitled him for it,'' Hosey said. "He never believed in this. He was just earning his money. That was it. He said he didn't need anything fancy. He was happy with what God gave him."
The victim and his wife were married for 40 years and had three sons, a daughter, and two grandchildren. He didn’t have life insurance and Hosey has created a GoFundMe page to help pay for her mother's expenses.
