Mexican boy Christopher Raymundo Marquez, 6, was brutally murdered by five other children in an intense “game of kidnap,” Mexican authorities reported.
Marquez was reportedly invited to play and collect firewood from a waste ground near his home in Chihuahua by five kids, ages 12 to 15.
“While they were playing, one of the 15-year-olds suggested to the others that they should kill Christopher,” state prosecutor Sergio Almaraz told El Diario de Chihuahua. “It wasn’t planned. It was a condition of the game they played.”
Almaraz also reportedly said that the five kids admitting to killing Marquez on Thursday.
As the boys reached the stream, they reportedly told Marquez that they were going to play a game of kidnap. They proceeded to tie Marquez’s hands and feet together, then beat him with a thorn-covered stick.
Marquez was then stoned and suffocated with the stick pressed against his neck. After he died, one of the boys allegedly stabbed him in the back.
Investigators were reportedly tipped off about the corpse's location by one of the alleged attackers' mothers. Marquez was found face down in a shallow grave on Saturday, nearly two days after he went missing from his home. The grave included weeds and a dead animal that had been dumped in.
The alleged killers are a 12-year-old boy, two 13-year-old girls, and two 15-year-old boys, according to El Debate. Three of the suspects, a 12-year-old boy and two 13-year-old girls, are too young to be charged and tried under local law, according to police. However, all five children are going to undergo psychological and sociological studies to determine their family environments.
Prosecutors have noted that the killing shows a “social decomposition” and “absence of values.”
