A 5-year-old Texas girl was airlifted to a hospital on Tuesday after she was found locked in an operating washing machine.
The girl was reportedly trapped in the machine on high speed for several minutes before anyone found her.
According to police, a woman at the Le’s Washateria tried to use the same washing machine just before the girl was found, but complained to the manager that the washer wasn’t working and received a refund. The woman then moved on to another washer.
Police are uncertain how the girl ended up in the washer and how it began working.
“She was tumbling pretty fast in there,” Vance Mitchell with Pasadena Police said. “One person walked by and said they saw something flopping around in there. They thought it was just a dress or something because it was moving pretty fast.”
After the girl was found, around 6:15 p.m., the owner shut the machine down and the girl was brought to the hospital. Her injuries were not life-threatening.
Police have not revealed where the girl’s parents were during the event. Foul play is not suspected.
