A 5-year-old girl with a Denver Broncos dress was banned from wearing it to her Tacoma, Washington, elementary school on what was dubbed "Blue Friday."

A teacher of 5-year-old Zyliah is an avid Seahawks fan, and she reportedly told Zyliah that she could not wear the Denver Broncos dress on Blue Friday.

“They should not discriminate against her," Fawn Allen, Zyliah's grandmother, told KDVR (video below). "She's 5 years old."

Zyliah, a die-hard Broncos fan, showed up to school wearing a Broncos dress. When Allen showed up to the school for a visit, she was confronted by her very upset granddaughter.

“She walked up to me and I knew something was wrong,” Allen said. “She just kind of put her head down and said, 'Grandma, Mrs. Watson told me I can’t wear my Broncos dress. If I don't have a Seahawks shirt I have to wear my uniform.'”

According to the teacher, no other team could be represented.

Allen subsequently spoke to the principal, who resolved the matter quickly.

“[The principal] said that's not our policy. Our policy is that they can wear whatever they want to to represent their team,” Allen said.

The Tacoma School District later responded to the ban in a statement, clarifying that it was a misunderstanding.

“The teacher didn't understand the full scope of what 'Blue Friday' means and sought clarification from the principal,” the district’s statement read. “’Blue Friday' means all teachers and students can wear gear from whatever team they want."
