4 Year Old Kills Himself with Handgun, Family Friend Charged
An unidentified 4-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the head with a handgun and died on Sunday.
EMTs from the Monroe County Ambulance and Dundee Volunteer Fire Department tried to save the boy's life in the bedroom of a Dundee, Michigan home at 4:15 p.m. after a 9-1-1 call (video below).
The boy was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan and pronounced dead at 5 p.m.
“Responders tried very hard to save the boy but were unable to. He was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor and was declared dead at 5 p.m," Sgt. Tom Redmond told The Detroit News.
“The father and mother are going through a divorce. She was living elsewhere when it happened. The child’s sister, 10, and brother, 5, were also living in the house. They were upstairs in a separate bedroom when the shooting occurred.”
An unidentified 30-year-old man, reportedly a family friend and owner of the gun, was arrested and charged with manslaughter and gross negligence, notes WXYZ.
