There was a huge student brawl outside the Proviso East High School in Maywood, Ill., that involved more than 300 students on their last day of school, May 31 (video below).
More than 40 police officers from neighboring towns responded to the fight. The police arrested 10 students, including a girl who allegedly was using two chef's knives in the melee. Boys and girls were seen stomping and hitting each other.
"Every day the Maywood Police are trying to control other people's children," said Police Chief Tim Curry to the Forest Park Review. "At some point parents have to come and say 'these are our kids and our responsibility.'"
Because it was the last day of school, students were dismissed at 9:30 a.m.
"We were caught by surprise when school got out at 9:30 in the morning," Curry said.
As usual, many other students watched the fight and recorded it on their cell phones. They didn't turn the footage over to police, but rather shared it with friends and family on YouTube and Facebook, reports NBC Chicago.
