A 3-year-old boy, Juan Antonio Garcia Alvarado, died and his mother was seriously injured when they were attacked by three Pit Bulls in the northeastern town of Las Terrenas, Dominican police report.
The deadly mauling took place at a vacation villa owned by a French citizen, where Patricia Alvarado, 24, worked as a maid.
The little boy died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Los Cubanos hospital, after he was admitted on the verge of death due to the multiple bites he suffered on his neck, face and head, according to Latino Fox News.
The toddler’s mother was bitten on the neck when she tried to fight off the dogs and prevent them from killing her son.
She was also treated at the Los Cubanos hospital, but later transported on an emergency basis to Santo Domingo's Doctor Dario Contreras Hospital, where she remains in serious condition.
One of the three dogs was euthanized, according to a preliminary report, but there was no explanation why the other two animals were not put down.
It is unclear who owns the Pit Bulls
Police are continuing their investigation of the incident.
