A 22-month-old boy in Florida died after a bullet from a drive-by shooting struck him. He was with his mother and grandmother.
Aiden Michael McClendon was in the car with his mother and grandmother in Jacksonville Jan. 29 when another car stopped and fired shots at them and a nearby house, WJXT reports.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered that Aiden had been shot multiple times in his upper body. He was the only person hit in the shooting.
Aiden was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. He died the next morning.
“The people responsible for this need to be off our streets,” said Tom Hackney, Chief of Investigations for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. “They don’t deserve to walk the same streets as you and I.”
Police have yet to confirm how many suspects were involved in the drive-by shooting, but they believe it is gang-related and that Aiden and his family were not the intended targets.
Hackney said that the investigation is still in its early stages and that there is a lot of evidence to process. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office asks that anybody with information on the suspects should call the authorities.
Sheriff Mike Williams said that $20,000 was raised as a reward for an arrest in the case of Aiden’s murder.
