2-Year-Old Boy Shot, Killed by 3-Year-Old Sister (Video)

A 2-year-old Utah boy died after being accidentally shot by his 3-year-old sister with a .22-caliber rifle last Friday night in College Ward, Utah.

The children's mother was at home during the shooting (video below).

"The gun had been used earlier in the day by the victim's father and was set down after returning home," Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Mike Peterson told KUTV.

"The gun was in an unloaded state, but did have live rounds in the magazine," added Sheriff's Lt. Peterson. "We believe the three year old had to manipulate the action enough to chamber a live round prior to the incident occurring."

The boy underwent surgery at a local hospital and was flown to a second hospital where he died, reports CBS News.

The shooting is believed to be accidental, however, it's not clear if the parents will be charged.

"It really does just reiterate that weapons are dangerous and you just need to take extra precautions with them," stated Sheriff's Lt. Peterson. "You just can't be safe enough."

In more gun-related tragedy, a 3-year-old boy was accidentally shot by his 4-year-old brother in St. Louis County on Sunday, notes the Associated Press.

The boy was taken to a hospital with a graze wound and is expected to survive, reports CBS St. Louis.

The boys' father, 27, was taken into custody, but has not been charged.
