Two New York City Police Department officers were killed in an execution-style ambush on Saturday afternoon.
According to the New York Post, the officers were sitting in their patrol car near Myrtle and Tompkins Avenues in Bedford-Stuyvesant when a man walked up behind them and opened fire. The incident is being regarded as a “planned attack.”
The officers were “shot in the upper body,” according to Deputy Chief Kim Royster.
Immediately following the shooting, the suspect reportedly fled into a subway station. He was ultimately found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and attempted to treat the officers. Both were then taken to Woodhull Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
“Our prayers are with our fellow #NYPD brothers who were executed in the line of duty today in #Brooklyn,” Deputy Inspector Michael Deddo of the 66th Precinct tweeted out.
