16-Year-Old Called a ‘Freak’ in South Pauling High School Yearbook (Video)

Dylan Worthen, a 16-year-old boy from South Paulding High School in Douglasville, Ga., saw something strange as he flipped through his yearbook. His name, for unknown reasons, was hyphenated as “Worthen-Freak” in the caption under the marching band photo. Worthen played trumpet in the horn section, says KSDK.

The school apparently has a “faculty advisor whose job is to proof the pages,” explains My Fox Atlanta, though “school officials said they don't know who is responsible for the word, or how it happened.”

Worthen has no idea from where the insult has come. "When I noticed it I was like, ‘Wow, who would do that,'" he said. His mother, Susan Powell, fears that her son will be scarred forever, remembering his freshman year as the time someone called him a ‘freak.’

"He's my son that I think the world of and he is no way any kind of freak,”says Powell, Dylan’s mother. “He has the biggest heart of any 16-year-old child I know.”

The school system, reports KSDK, intends not to destroy and reprint all of the yearbooks, as Powell prefers, but rather plans on creating a sticker which can be placed over the page to correct the typo.
