A 15-year-old in Knoxville, Tenn., was arrested Monday morning after he lit his 23-year-old teacher on fire.
The male student at West High School assaulted his teacher, Gabriela Penalba, at 10:45 a.m. while her back was turned to the class. He apparently approached Penalba from behind and used a lighter to set her hair and shirt on fire.
Classmates promptly helped Penalba put out the fire. She was not burned.
The suspect allegedly tossed the lighter out of the window during the struggle and fled police officers when they arrived at the school.
During a police interview, the student allegedly admitted to the assault.
Taken to juvenile detention, he is charged with aggravated assault and evading arrest.
