14-Year-Old Girl Shot Dead After Spat On Facebook

A disagreement on Facebook between a group of girls turned into a shootout, leaving one 14-year-old girl dead and two others wounded.

Police in Alabama have identified the victim as Kierra’onna Rice. She was involved in a Facebook quarrel with a group of girls about three weeks ago and had agreed to meet in a local Birmingham park for a physical confrontation.

The group of girls met at the park on Friday and shortly after the fight began, shots were fired. Police received a phone call about a person being shot and arrived at the scene around 6:15 pm, reports.

The 14-year-old girl was found in critical condition. She was rushed to Baptist Princeton Medical Center, where she died from her injuries. Two other girls were wounded and remain in UAB Hospital.

Police said they have arrested two male suspects, ages 17 and 19, who were identified by witnesses as the shooters. Their names will be released once formal charges have been filed.

“This was an absolutely senseless killing,” Lieutenant Sean Edwards told “Fights on the street are not fair and are extremely unpredictable.

“You’re agreeing to accepting the harm that may take place to you and others.”

Edwards added that there is no evidence that suggests the shooting was planned. Investigators believe that one of the suspects was dating one of the girls who was fighting Rice, WIAT reports.

This is the second 14-year-old homicide victim in Birmingham in just the last few weeks. Edwards said this is causing a “big concern.”

“We’re starting to see a lot of teens armed and extremely dangerous,” Edwards said. “We are starting to see them become more violent. They’re using guns to solve their issues.”
