A 13-year-old boy in Washington has been charged with three counts of first-degree rape after allegedly attacking a seven-year-old girl on a school bus several times.
According to the Peninsula Daily News, the Chimacum Middle School student is scheduled to appear in court on July 15.
If convicted, the boy will only serve a maximum sentence of 108 weeks in juvenile detention, due to his age.
The assaults were reported after the girl told her aunt and her aunt took her to a physician to talk about them.
The boy has not yet been appointed with an attorney. He was, however, expelled from Chimacum Middle School and released to his family until the legal case is resolved.
The boy and the victim shared a bus despite being 6 years apart in age because the school district did not separate students by age. District officials are now considering a revision of this policy.
