A 12-year-old Labrador named Levi from Morro, Bay, California, is being hailed as a hero today after he helped save his 89-year-old neighbor's life when he discovered her on the floor of her garage after a fall.
Levi's owner, Gary Ream, usually tends to his elderly neighbor's garden every morning and his dog accompanies him and sits on a patch of grass in the yard. But this weekend, instead of taking his position in the grass, Levi paced back and forth from his neighbor's garage to the yard until he caught his owner's attention, reports Life With Dogs.
Levi had spotted his neighbor on the ground and in need of help.
"I got up to get a glass of water, I stood up, and I was a little dizzy," the neighbor told KSBY News. "Before I knew it, I was on the floor and fell."
The senior citizen says she tried to call Lifeline, but there was no response. "I called and called and called for two hours, and I must have pushed that button more than 20 times."
She says she tried to make her way over to the door to call out for help.
"Anybody on the street walking? Where are you people? You walk all the time, why aren't you walking your dogs today?," she recalled. "No one answered me."
The woman says she is grateful for Levi's actions, "You're a good boy, Levi, thank you for saving my life."
The elderly woman was sore from spending two hours on the ground, but didn't suffer injuries from her fall.
