10-Year-Old Girl is Shot, Parents Mistake Bleeding for Menstruation

A ten-year-old girl, who was shot in the buttocks, bled for five hours because she and her family believed she had started menstruating.

The unidentified girl was struck in the behind while sleeping in her home in Haywood, Calif. last Thursday.

Apparently, the stray bullet came from a shooting nearby, noted the Associated Press.

The young girl woke up in pain and thought she had started her period. Her parents were unaware that she had been shot, said Sgt. Mark Ormsby.

It wasn't until hours later when her parents looked at her bed did they discover bullet holes and call 911.

The girl’s doctor claims the entry wound of the bullet was so small that it could have been overlooked.
