A 10-year-old Florida boy is dead after what police called a tragic accident when chains on a swing set reportedly wrapped around the child's neck.

Nahshon Green was on a swing set at Charles Clark Park in Jacksonville on Nov. 17 while his mother got her other children ready to leave, reports WGHP.

"When she turned around, she saw the child and he was hanging from the swing set and his feet were not touching the ground," said Jackson Sheriff's Office Sgt. S.C. Rudlaff. "She immediately reacted, got the child off the swings, and called 911."

When police arrived at the park around 6:15 p.m., Nahshon was not responsive. He was then taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Investigators said they believe he was standing up on the swing and the swing's chains got tangled around his neck.

"At this time, the death is being investigated as a tragic accident and foul play is not suspected," said the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on Twitter.

Officers described Nahshon's mother as "devastated," reports WJXT.

She left a plush toy against a tree at the park in memory of her son, and said she had lost a piece of her heart with her son's death.

"Kids have to be careful on swings," said the grieving mother. "Anything can happen in the blink of an eye."

She added that her son was a "happy kid" who "loved to explore" and left an impression on everyone who met him.

Gil Smith, a crime and safety analyst and retired Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, said there's no way to make anything completely safe for kids.

"It just not possible. Sometime, accidents just happen," said Smith. "So the best thing is, when parents are [at the park] with their kids, is to keep an eye on them the best that they can."

A GoFundMe for the Nahshon's funeral expenses had raised more than $2,000 of its $5,000 goal.

"This has been a traumatic experience for our family," reads the GoFundMe page. "Nahshon was truly loved and will surely be missed."

In May, another child in Florida died in an accident on a swing set, reports The Associated Press.

A 7-year-old girl in Baker was pronounced dead after her father came home to find her hanging from the swing in their yard by her neck. He reportedly took her down and tried to revive her until paramedics arrived.

The girl's mother said that she thought the child had only been outside for a little while.

The girl was pronounced dead at a hospital, and police have said that the incident appears to have been an accident.
