A 10-year old boy was shot and killed and his father was wounded during a robbery on Friday evening at a nail salon in South Florida.
Aaron Vu was at his parents’ business, Hong Kong Nail Salon, with his father, Hai Nam Vu, when two armed men entered and opened fire, according to Mail Online, which also reports that the intruders were caught on surveillance camera entering the business with their guns drawn and then fleeing, but not before spraying the inside of the store with bullets.
WSVN-TV reports that the father and son were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where Aaron was later pronounced dead.
"It's hard to imagine, a 10-year-old being put in that situation and being killed," said Miami-Dade Police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta. "Here we are, a month before Christmas, and this poor family has lost their [son]."
Police are searching for the gunmen, who reportedly got away with purses, cell phones and cash.
“I hope the people in the community are as outraged as we are. These people need to be caught. They need to be taken off the street if they’ve done it once they’ll do it again and anybody could be a victim,” Lt. Jim Tietz with Miami-Dade Police told CBS Miami.
Friends and family have been leaving teddy bears and flowers in front of the salon, turning the storefront into a makeshift memorial for Aaron.
One of Aaron’s classmates said the young boy was always trying to make everyone around him happy.
"He was basically the class clown," Paul Nanphy said. "He was very funny, and sometimes he would make the teacher laugh, and the class laughed."
Police are reportedly offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the suspects’ arrest.
