Alabama Couple Charged In Abuse Of Newborn Twins

A couple in Alabama has been charged with aggravated child abuse of twin infants.

Jordan Swenson, 19, and Marion Dycus, 20, were arrested on May 3, according to

A warrant filed in relation to the case says the two individuals did "torture, willfully abuse, cruelly beat, or otherwise willfully maltreat the child by causing physical injury which created the substantial risk of death on multiple occasions."

The twins, a boy and a girl, were born on Jan. 22.  The abuse reportedly took place from the time of their birth to April 27, when the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office was notified after the infants had been taken to the intensive care unit of Children's Alabama hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Both infants reportedly had heavy bruising on their heads and faces.  The girl was in severe respiratory distress and had a bite mark on her face, while the boy had broken ribs, according to WBRC.

Swenson and Dycus are expected to appear in court on May 25. Bail has been set at  $1 million each.
