Adrián Simancas was paddling with his father, Dell, near Bahía El Águila in the Strait of Magellan when the enormous whale emerged from the water. The encounter, which was captured on video by his father, lasted only a few seconds but left Adrián convinced he had just survived a potentially deadly encounter.

Dell remained nearby throughout the ordeal and could be heard urging his son to remain calm after Adrián resurfaced.

Adrián later recalled believing that the whale had actually swallowed him.

“I thought I was dead,” he told The Associated Press, describing the experience as terrifying.

The initial shock was not the end of his fear. Once he emerged from the water, Adrián said his thoughts quickly shifted toward his father and the possibility that either of them could be injured or unable to make it back to shore.

The freezing conditions added another serious concern. Adrián said he worried about becoming hypothermic while trying to reach safety in the cold water.

Despite the chaos, Dell managed to keep filming while reassuring his son. Adrián eventually made his way over to his father’s kayak, where he was able to get assistance. The two men then returned to shore without suffering injuries.

The dramatic footage has since attracted widespread attention online, offering a remarkable glimpse of just how quickly a close encounter with one of the ocean’s largest animals can become frightening.

The Strait of Magellan, located roughly 1,600 miles south of Santiago, is one of the most notable destinations in Chilean Patagonia. The region draws tourists and adventurers who participate in kayaking and other outdoor activities.

But the area’s spectacular scenery comes with challenging conditions. Even during the Southern Hemisphere’s summer season, temperatures can remain relatively low, with overnight temperatures falling to around 39 degrees Fahrenheit and daytime highs generally staying below 68 degrees.

Humpback whales are generally not known for attacking humans, and encounters resulting in injuries are extraordinarily uncommon in Chilean waters. The incident involving Adrián appears to have been an extremely unusual accident rather than an intentional attack.

The region’s whales face dangers of their own. In recent years, conservation officials have raised concerns about whale deaths linked to collisions with large commercial vessels, while strandings have also remained an ongoing problem.

For Adrián and his father, however, the encounter will likely be remembered for a very different reason: a routine kayaking expedition that suddenly put them face-to-face with a massive whale — and ended with both men safely back on land.

Burdell, a Michelin Guide-listed soul food restaurant in Oakland, became the target of negative reviews after a Reddit post highlighting the receipt language spread online. The restaurant had previously been named the best restaurant in the country by Food & Wine magazine in 2025.

The message explains that the restaurant adds a 20% service charge to every check. Rather than relying on traditional tipping, the policy is intended to provide restaurant employees with a more consistent wage.

The receipt also references the history of tipping in the United States, arguing that the system has contributed to underpaid restaurant workers. Customers are told that no additional gratuity is expected after the service charge is added.

Following the Reddit post, Burdell’s Yelp page was flooded with negative reviews. Some critics attacked the restaurant’s food, while others focused primarily on the service charge or claimed they had not been adequately informed about it.

Restaurant owner and chef Geoff Davis, however, dismissed much of the criticism, arguing that many of the people participating in the online backlash were not regular customers from the Oakland area.

Davis suggested that the controversy had become part of a much broader political fight involving Oakland, diversity initiatives and racial issues rather than a genuine dispute over the restaurant’s food or pricing.

He also addressed the criticism publicly on Instagram, maintaining that Burdell informs customers about the additional charge before they dine. Davis pointed out that service fees have become increasingly common throughout the Bay Area and said some restaurants impose charges exceeding Burdell’s 20% fee.

The chef has faced criticism before.

After Burdell received significant national attention and industry accolades, some detractors questioned whether the restaurant’s recognition was based on its ownership rather than the quality of its food. Critics reportedly suggested that its awards were connected to affirmative-action considerations because the establishment is Black-owned.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife said Jackie died during the early hours of Aug. 9 while receiving intensive treatment at the Ojai Raptor Center. She had been under veterinary care there for more than three weeks.

Jackie had already been diagnosed with anemia and inflammation affecting her kidneys. However, veterinarians later identified several additional complications, including blood clots, abnormalities involving her liver and lungs, and a poor response from her bone marrow.

Her condition worsened significantly after she could no longer keep food down following 23 days of treatment. Officials said the development was accompanied by a sharp decline in her packed cell volume, a measurement used to assess the proportion of red blood cells in blood.

Veterinarians conducted extensive testing during Jackie’s treatment, including advanced imaging, a bone marrow biopsy and specialized examinations for possible heavy-metal exposure. Specialists from around the country reportedly worked alongside the Ojai team as they attempted to understand the cause of her deteriorating health.

A necropsy is now expected to provide additional answers. According to wildlife officials, veterinary pathologists with the San Diego Wildlife Alliance will examine Jackie’s remains.

Federal regulations also determine what happens next. Jackie’s remains are expected to be transported to the National Eagle Repository in Colorado, a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service facility that handles eagle remains, feathers and other parts for distribution to enrolled members of federally recognized tribes for cultural, religious and ceremonial purposes.

Jackie’s death has also left many admirers wondering about her longtime mate, Shadow. The pair had been together for approximately eight years, but wildlife experts say it remains uncertain whether Shadow will remain in the territory or eventually find another mate.

Friends of Big Bear Valley, the nonprofit behind the camera that brought Jackie and Shadow into homes around the world, said numerous other eagles have recently been spotted in the area.

Jackie had a remarkable history. She was documented as the first bald eagle chick to hatch in Big Bear Valley in 2012. After her parents left the area, Jackie unexpectedly returned to the nest and eventually became a fixture in the local ecosystem.

Millions of viewers later followed her life through the nest camera, watching as she endured harsh weather, raised eaglets, experienced failed nesting attempts and interacted with Shadow.

Her story resonated far beyond California.

Students at Gomez Elementary School in San Bernardino, whose mascot is an eagle, mourned Jackie’s death and created farewell cards in her memory. Teachers and students described her as a symbol of strength, freedom and resilience.

Trump said he ultimately believed the smaller military aircraft he boarded may have presented an even greater security risk than the plane he had been expected to use.

“I think actually the plane that I flew on was at greater risk,” Trump told reporters, explaining that an aircraft believed to be carrying the president could have been viewed as the more likely target.

The secret maneuver reportedly took place after Trump attended the NATO gathering in Turkey. According to reports, the president left Air Force One shortly after boarding and was transported through the airport in a catering vehicle before transferring to another military aircraft bound for Britain.

The unusual move was reportedly prompted by concerns about a potential Iranian assassination threat.

The White House did not publicly reveal the switch at the time. The operation only became known after The Washington Post reported details of the maneuver earlier this week.

Trump was not alone during the transfer. Several members of his inner circle reportedly accompanied him inside the catering truck, including White House deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino, executive assistant Natalie Harp and Oval Office operations director Walt Nauta. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also reportedly made the switch to the other aircraft Trump was on.

But it’s who was reportedly left on Air Force One that’s generating controversy. Left behind on the original plane (the “decoy”), unaware Trump wasn’t on it, were Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, along with other White House staffers, military personnel, and members of the press. Other aides named as being on the decoy plane include Stephen Miller, Steven Cheung, Will Scharf, Mike Needham, Ross Worthington, and Monica Crowley.

The revelation has drawn swift criticism from Democratic officials and press advocates. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker called it a “bait and switch,” arguing Trump “put people in harm’s way to save himself.” On Capitol Hill, Senate Democrats have pushed for accountability: Sen. Chuck Schumer demanded an immediate Senate briefing on the Iranian threat and the risks posed to U.S. personnel during the operation, while Sen. Richard Blumenthal said a congressional briefing is necessary because it involves not just the president’s safety but also what precautions were taken to keep staff and reporters on the decoy plane safe.

The covert operation quickly became fodder for social media, where images and jokes depicting Trump hiding inside a catering truck circulated widely.

Trump brushed aside the criticism, saying the decision was ultimately made by the security professionals responsible for protecting him.

“I just follow what they’d like to do,” Trump said, adding that he relies on the Secret Service and military when it comes to such security decisions.

The president also acknowledged that he receives numerous threats but indicated that he did not seek extensive details about the specific warning behind the operation.

The timing of the aircraft switch raised additional questions because Trump had traveled to Ankara aboard a recently renovated aircraft donated by Qatar. The jet had attracted considerable attention before the trip because of its upgrades, cost and security implications.

Trump’s NATO trip marked the aircraft’s first international journey. However, rather than using the newer plane for the return trip, the president unexpectedly departed Turkey aboard an older Air Force One aircraft before secretly transferring to another military plane.

The extraordinary incident unfolded on Jan. 3, 1943, during a daylight bombing operation targeting the German-controlled port of Saint-Nazaire. Magee was the ball turret gunner aboard the B-17F bomber “Snap! Crackle! Pop!” during the mission.

The aircraft belonged to the 360th Bomb Squadron of the 303rd Bomb Group and was part of a mission aimed at striking German military infrastructure, including torpedo storage facilities.

Saint-Nazaire was considered an especially dangerous target by American bomber crews because of the heavy German defenses protecting the strategically important port and its U-boat facilities.

Magee, who had enlisted following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, originally hoped to become a pilot. Instead, his relatively small frame made him well suited for the cramped ball turret beneath the bomber. The mission would be his seventh combat flight.

As the formation approached Saint-Nazaire, German anti-aircraft guns opened fire.

Flak struck the B-17, damaging Magee’s turret and leaving it unusable. He climbed out and began making his way toward the radio compartment. Then another devastating blast hit the bomber.

The attack tore away part of the aircraft’s right wing and sent the B-17 into a violent spin.

Magee was struggling with the effects of high altitude when the aircraft’s sudden movement sent him out of the bomber. He had no parachute and was already losing consciousness as he began falling toward the ground.

His descent covered approximately 22,000 feet.

Instead of striking solid ground, Magee crashed through the glass roof of the Saint-Nazaire railway station.

The roof dramatically changed the outcome of the fall, absorbing enough of the impact to leave him alive. But the airman was horrifically injured.

Magee suffered numerous shrapnel wounds, a broken nose, damage to one of his eyes, a punctured lung, kidney injuries, a fractured leg and a severely damaged right arm that was nearly severed.

He eventually regained consciousness at a first-aid station before being taken for further medical treatment.

There, an unexpected act of compassion came from an enemy physician.

A German military doctor treated Magee despite the fact that the two men were on opposite sides of the war. The physician reportedly told the wounded American that he was an enemy soldier, but that his first responsibility was as a doctor.

Magee never learned the physician’s identity, but he later expressed gratitude for the German doctor’s efforts to save his arm and treat his severe wounds.

Magee was eventually taken prisoner and spent the remainder of the war as a POW. The other surviving members of his crew were also sent to a German prisoner-of-war camp.

The bomber itself crashed in the La Baule-Escoublac Forest. German forces later recovered part of the aircraft and removed the front section bearing its distinctive nose art. The piece was displayed as a trophy at a villa used by German occupation officials.

Near the end of the war, that trophy was reportedly thrown from a cliff before the German surrender.

Magee was liberated in 1945. He received both the Air Medal and Purple Heart and eventually returned to aviation, earning his pilot’s license and building a career in the industry.

Decades later, Magee returned to Saint-Nazaire.

In 1995, the city honored him and remembered the American airmen who died in the crash. Magee also visited the location where the German doctor had treated him and returned to the railway station.

Standing there more than half a century after his fall, he was able to look up at the glass roof that had helped save his life.

Magee died in 2003 at age 84, leaving behind a story that remains almost impossible to comprehend: a World War II airman who fell from 22,000 feet without a parachute, crashed through a railway station roof and somehow survived.

Harrison Odjegba Okene was aboard the Jascon 4 when the vessel suddenly overturned in Nigerian waters on May 26. The 29-year-old cook was inside a bathroom when the tugboat violently shifted, throwing him across the small compartment and plunging everything into darkness.

As the vessel settled underwater, Okene desperately searched for a way to survive. He eventually discovered an air pocket inside part of the wreck, giving him a limited supply of oxygen while freezing water surrounded him.

He was wearing only boxer shorts and had little to sustain him. At one point, he found a bottle of Coke, which became his only source of nourishment during the ordeal.

As the hours dragged on, Okene turned to his faith. He repeatedly recited passages from the Bible, including a psalm his wife had sent him before the disaster. He later said he believed his survival was an act of divine intervention.

The situation appeared hopeless.

Eleven other crew members aboard the vessel died, and rescue divers initially arrived with a grim mission: recover bodies.

Divers from Dutch company DCN Diving had already retrieved four victims when one of them encountered something completely unexpected.

A hand appeared on the diver’s camera feed.

At first, the team assumed they had found another body. But when the diver reached toward the hand, it suddenly grabbed him.

The discovery triggered shock in the control room. The man they believed was dead was actually alive.

Okene had survived for roughly 72 hours inside the wreck.

The rescue footage later showed the diver discovering the trapped cook and helping bring him out of the vessel. Okene recalled hearing the astonishing words that confirmed his survival: There was a survivor.

The rescue team initially focused on stabilizing Okene and gradually restoring his body temperature. He was given oxygen and eventually placed inside a decompression chamber before being brought safely back to the surface.

Okene later described believing that death was inevitable as he waited in the darkness. He tried to attract attention by striking the steel structure of the wreck with a hammer after hearing the sound of a vessel above him. Unfortunately, the rescuers moved away before they could locate him.

With his oxygen supply steadily declining, every passing hour became more dangerous.

Inside the wreck, Okene also worried about his fellow crew members. He knew many of them may have been secured inside their cabins when the tug overturned, a precaution commonly taken in waters where piracy has posed a threat.

He also heard noises in the darkness that he believed could have come from marine animals feeding around the wreck, adding another layer of terror to an already desperate situation.

By the time rescuers found him, Okene’s family had reportedly already been told that the sailors aboard the vessel were dead.

Instead, he became the sole survivor.

The rescue was later captured on video and released publicly, offering a remarkable look at the moment divers realized they had found a living man instead of another victim.

Okene has continued to describe the experience as a miracle. After spending three days surrounded by darkness, cold water and dwindling oxygen, he ultimately made it back to his family alive.

His survival remains one of the most extraordinary underwater rescue stories ever captured on video — a case in which a tiny pocket of trapped air, determined rescuers and unwavering faith combined to give a man one final chance.

While body changes can have countless explanations, some can prompt people to take a closer look at their overall health. One physician has drawn attention to an unexpected physical change she says she has noticed among some older patients who have experienced elevated insulin levels over many years.

Dr. Annette Bosworth, who is also known as “Dr. Boz,” shared the observation while appearing on Steven Bartlett’s “Diary of a CEO” podcast.

According to Bosworth, she sometimes tells patients in their 50s who have experienced prolonged periods of high insulin to examine their toes.

Other critics brought up Hegseth’s past admission that he does not regularly wash his hands. During an earlier television appearance, Hegseth claimed he had gone roughly a decade without washing his hands and questioned the significance of germs because they cannot be seen.

The latest controversy comes after another viral moment involving Hegseth and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.

While speaking at an event honoring Graham, Hegseth attempted to imitate the longtime senator’s distinctive Southern accent. He quickly abandoned the impression, joking that his version of Graham’s voice inevitably turns into an imitation of President Donald Trump.

“I have a family,” Stuebe told Williams, according to his account. He also pleaded with the armed man to stop, telling him that he would cooperate with whatever Williams wanted.

The teenager said Williams appeared to become overwhelmed during their exchange. Stuebe recalled seeing the suspect begin to tear up and said Williams spoke in a voice that sounded as though he was crying.

Williams eventually told Stuebe to leave him alone, but the teenager said the gunman then fired in his direction. The shot missed, and Williams continued on.

Police later identified Williams as the suspected shooter. Authorities said he died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following the attack.

Stuebe described the encounter as deeply frightening and said the experience has continued to weigh heavily on him and the Twin Falls community.

In a social media message following the shooting, the teenager said he was physically unharmed but remained devastated by the loss of life and the impact on local residents. He also interacts with people below. Passersby have reportedly seen him wave from the billboard and use a whiteboard to communicate with people on the ground.

The unusual stunt is intended to reflect the unsettling premise of “The Last House,” which features actors Wagner Moura and Greta Lee.

The thriller centers on a family trapped inside their home and forced to work together as their resources become increasingly limited. At the same time, an ominous force prevents them from simply walking away, turning their home into a place of confinement rather than safety.

TikTok creator B.D. Powell brought the allegation to millions of viewers, saying his wife suspected that customers who declined to tip at Shake Shack were being charged higher menu prices.

Powell put the claim to the test at the Shake Shack inside Salt Lake City International Airport, ordering vanilla, strawberry and cookies & cream shakes.

According to footage shared online, each shake initially appeared on the ordering screen with a $5.99 price tag. The kiosk then presented Powell with a standard gratuity prompt offering 15%, 18% and 20% options, along with a button allowing customers to select “no tip.”

Powell chose not to leave a gratuity.

That was when the alleged pricing discrepancy appeared.

After the no-tip selection, the kiosk displayed a notification informing the customer that prices had changed for one or more items and prompted him to review the updated order. The three shakes were then listed at $6.49 apiece, representing an additional 50 cents per drink.

Powell shared the experience with his followers, and the video quickly attracted millions of views. Many commenters expressed outrage and questioned whether the apparent price increase was connected to the decision not to tip.

The incident prompted some users to criticize what they see as an increasingly aggressive tipping culture, with others saying they would stop patronizing the chain if declining a tip resulted in higher prices.

But not everyone accepted Powell’s conclusion.

Skeptics pointed out that the video did not establish that the higher prices were triggered by the no-tip selection. One commenter argued that Powell would need to show what happened when a customer selected one of the tipping options before drawing a direct connection.

A Massachusetts lobster diver is sharing the incredible story of how he survived what experts describe as an extraordinarily rare encounter after being briefly trapped inside the mouth of a humpback whale while diving off Cape Cod.

Michael Packard, a veteran commercial lobster diver, had entered the water for his second dive of the morning near Herring Cove Beach when the unimaginable happened.

Packard said he was descending toward the ocean floor, surrounded by schools of fish in clear water, when he was suddenly struck by an immense force. Within moments, daylight disappeared.

He recalled feeling as though he had been engulfed entirely, surrounded by darkness while sensing powerful muscles pressing around him. At first, he feared he had fallen victim to a great white shark, but after realizing there were no teeth or severe bite injuries, he concluded he had somehow ended up inside a humpback whale’s mouth.

Believing he might not survive, Packard said his thoughts immediately turned to his two sons.

Still wearing his scuba gear, Packard struggled as the whale moved through the water. He estimated he remained inside the animal for roughly half a minute before the whale surfaced and forcefully expelled him back into the ocean.

His crewmate, Josiah Mayo, witnessed the dramatic scene from the boat, quickly pulled Packard from the water and radioed for emergency assistance before rushing him back to shore. He was transported to Cape Cod Hospital, where he was treated and later released with soft tissue injuries but no broken bones.

Marine experts say the incident appears to have been nothing more than an accidental encounter during a feeding dive.

Jooke Robbins, director of Humpback Whale Studies at the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown, explained that humpback whales feed by opening their enormous mouths to capture schools of small fish. During that process, their vision is temporarily obstructed, making it possible—though exceedingly uncommon—for them to unintentionally scoop up an object that isn’t prey.

Robbins noted that humpback whales are not aggressive toward humans and lack the anatomy to swallow a person. Their narrow esophagus prevents a human from passing into the stomach, meaning someone accidentally caught in the whale’s mouth would likely be expelled.

A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged as an adult in connection with the armed carjacking of an off-duty FBI agent in Washington, D.C., as authorities continue searching for another suspect believed to have participated in the violent crime.

Police identified the suspect as Devonta Lynch, who was taken into custody Monday following the daytime attack that unfolded last Wednesday near the Lincoln Memorial.

According to court documents cited by Fox 5 DC, investigators executed a search at Lynch’s residence after identifying him as a suspect. During the search, authorities reportedly recovered a handgun magazine, two 50-round boxes of 9mm ammunition and a pair of black Nike sneakers that detectives believe match the footwear seen on surveillance footage captured during the investigation.

The victim, an off-duty female FBI agent, told investigators she had been standing beside her vehicle with the driver’s door open while zipping up her jacket when she was suddenly attacked.

Court records indicate the agent was knocked to the ground before one of the suspects pointed a handgun at her and demanded her cellphone and car keys. The victim told investigators she briefly struggled with the attackers but was ultimately overpowered.

Authorities said the suspects stole her belongings before fleeing in her vehicle from the area of the 100 block of 12th Street SE. The agent suffered a cut to her lip during the confrontation but did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

Police quickly launched a search for the stolen vehicle and located it abandoned roughly 15 minutes later in a nearby neighborhood.

Surveillance video reportedly captured the suspects exiting the vehicle and running from the scene on foot. Investigators allege the footage helped identify Lynch as the individual who drove the stolen vehicle after the carjacking.

Detectives also received an anonymous tip claiming Lynch and the second suspect are associated with the Area 71 gang, according to the court filings. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the alleged gang affiliation, and the second suspect remains at large.

Court records further show Lynch is a student at High Road Upper School and had previously faced an assault charge stemming from an unrelated incident in November.

Following his arrest, a judge ordered Lynch to remain in juvenile detention without bond while the case proceeds through the court system. Although he is 17 years old, prosecutors have charged him as an adult because of the seriousness of the allegations.

The Metropolitan Police Department continues to investigate the case and is asking anyone with information about the outstanding suspect to contact investigators. No additional arrests have been announced.

The school district shared a message of support for Emmy’s loved ones, asking the community to keep the Bridgers family in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate the heartbreaking loss.

Authorities are now working to determine what led to the child’s death. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an autopsy, according to Channel 2 reporter Ashlyn Webb.

The Bartow County Coroner’s Office said Emmy had been scheduled to undergo a tonsil-related surgery, but officials confirmed the procedure did not ultimately take place. Coroner Joel Guyton said investigators are awaiting medical records to better understand the care she received before her death.

Court records show 31-year-old Malik Chandler has been charged with felony assault and possessing a weapon while under a legal disability after authorities say he shot 20-year-old Diego Montoya Gonzalez twice at his Grove City home last month.

According to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office, the weapons charge stems from Chandler’s earlier burglary conviction as a juvenile in 2010. Under Ohio law, that conviction prohibited him from legally possessing a firearm, prosecutors said. If convicted on the current charges, Chandler could face substantially more prison time than he would have on the assault charge alone.

Chandler has pleaded not guilty. Following his arraignment, family members posted bond, allowing his release under strict conditions that include electronic monitoring and restrictions barring him from contacting Montoya Gonzalez or his relatives.

During a recent court hearing, prosecutors also alleged Chandler threatened a member of Montoya Gonzalez’s family outside the courthouse following an earlier proceeding. Chandler denied making the alleged threat.

The tragic incident unfolded Sunday evening in Midland, where officers with the Midland Police Department were dispatched to a home on East Pecan Avenue shortly before 8 p.m. after receiving reports of an unresponsive child trapped inside a vehicle.

When officers arrived, they encountered 25-year-old Lorenzo Rodriguez along with several of his relatives, who had already made a heartbreaking discovery.

According to investigators, family members became concerned after learning Rodriguez had reportedly consumed alcohol the previous night. Unable to reach him throughout the day, they decided to visit the residence to check on both him and his young daughter.

Police said repeated attempts to get someone to answer the front door were unsuccessful. Growing increasingly worried, relatives removed a window-mounted air-conditioning unit to gain access to the home.

Inside, they found Rodriguez asleep. Investigators believe he had been sleeping since approximately 11 a.m. and had not awakened for several hours.

As family members searched the house, they realized the toddler was nowhere to be found. They then rushed outside, where they spotted the child inside a parked black Kia passenger vehicle that was not running.

In a desperate effort to save her, relatives shattered one of the vehicle’s windows and pulled the little girl from the car before rushing her to Midland Memorial Hospital. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead.

Following an initial investigation, detectives arrested Rodriguez and charged him with capital murder. Authorities have not released additional details about how long the child had been inside the vehicle, and the investigation remains active.

The incident comes as Texas continues to experience dangerously high summer temperatures. Weather records show Midland reached a high of approximately 99 degrees on the day of the tragedy.

According to the National Weather Service, even when outside temperatures are below 100 degrees, the inside of a parked vehicle can become deadly in a matter of minutes. Interior temperatures can climb by about 20 degrees within the first 10 minutes and may exceed 130 degrees in roughly half an hour, creating life-threatening conditions for children, pets, and anyone left inside.

Midland, located along Interstate 20 between Dallas and El Paso, has experienced prolonged stretches of intense summer heat in recent weeks, prompting repeated warnings from officials about the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles.

Prince George’s County Inspector General Anthony Bennett said the administrative judge overseeing the matter has up to 45 days to issue a final order. If that recommendation calls for Marlett’s dismissal, Police Chief Malik Aziz will ultimately be responsible for implementing the decision.

The controversy began after a bystander recorded the encounter at Southlawn Park in Oxon Hill.

The footage, which amassed more than two million views after being posted on TikTok, appeared to capture Marlett hugging a woman beside his patrol vehicle before both entered the back seat and closed the door.

The unusual scene quickly fueled speculation online.

Shortly after the video gained national attention, a woman identifying herself as Marlett’s wife publicly alleged that the woman seen in the recording was involved in an extramarital affair with the officer.

The video was recorded by witness Nelson Ochoa, who said he was stunned by what he observed.

Ochoa recalled that the incident unfolded in a public park where families and children were nearby, making the situation even more surprising. He said he never expected to witness a uniformed police officer entering the rear compartment of an official patrol vehicle with another person under those circumstances.

The case has remained under close public scrutiny ever since, with many community members questioning whether the officer’s conduct reflected the standards expected of law enforcement personnel.

With the hearing board’s findings now complete, Marlett’s future with the Prince George’s County Police Department rests on the final administrative ruling expected in the coming weeks.

Melanie recalled the emotional toll of receiving her own diagnosis while worrying about her father’s condition. At one point, she admitted she felt completely overwhelmed, fearing she might lose both her health and one of the most important people in her life at the same time.
