Explanation:
Dr. Sarita Freedman is a clinical psychologist, and maintains a private practice in Calabasas, California. In addition to conventional psychotherapy services for adults and children, Dr. Freedman carries a specialty in developmental disabilities, and specifically, in children and adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). She has conducted social skills groups for children with ASD, and support groups for parents of children with ASD and other disabilities. She trains and supervises graduate and undergraduate students to work with special needs children and their families, and consults with professionals in the community about their work with individuals on the autism spectrum. She was formerly a co-founder and Director of Special Needs Programs at the Child Development Institute where she designed, implemented and supervised all parent-child intervention and professional training programs addressing the needs of children with special needs. Dr. Freedman's clinical work encompasses individual, marital, play therapy, behavioral and Floor Time services for adults, children, adolescents and couples, including the special needs populations. She has worked with young children and their families for over 25 years.
Dr. Freedman is currently writing a book on preparing students with ASD for college, and has a particular interest in working with older teens and adults with ASD.
