The Freedom From Religion Foundation, Inc., is an educational group working for the separation of state and church. Its purposes, as stated in its bylaws, are to promote the constitutional principle of separation of state and church, and to educate the public on matters relating to nontheism. Incorporated in 1978 in Wisconsin, the Foundation is a national membership association of freethinkers: atheists, agnostics and skeptics of any pedigree. The Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization under Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3). All dues and contributions are deductible for income tax purposes. The Foundation acts on countless violations of separation of state and church on behalf of members and the public, including: Prayers in public schools, payment of public funds for religious purposes, government funding of pervasively sectarian institutions, and the ongoing campaign against civil rights for women, gays and lesbians led by churches. The Foundation keeps several challenges in the courts at all times, and has ended a variety of violations of the First Amendment.

Should Obama have Picked Rick Warren for Inauguration?

On January 20, Barack Obama will become the new president of the United States, but the upcoming inauguration is already making headlines. Scheduled to give the invocation speech is evangelical minister Rick Warren, whose comments comparing gay marriage to incest and beastiality have made him a highly controversial figure. Will Obama's choice to ring in the new year unite America, or further fracture an already divided country?

What Should Obama's Priority be After Inauguration?

On January 20, Barack Obama placed his right hand on the Bible, swore to uphold the Constitution and became the 44th president of the United States. The historical symbolism of this moment was enormous, but the honeymoon won't last long. In fact, it may have already ended. With a crippled economy, a war in two countries and divided nation to contend with, Obama takes office at one of the most troubled times in American history. What should his priorities be once the inauguration celebrations are over?

Is there a "War on Christmas?"

It’s that time of year again: houses are brightly lit, trees are sparkling with tinsel and parents are battling for the last remaining Elmo. In recent years, though, we’ve been hearing more about a “war” on Christmas, as public displays become increasingly scarce and “Merry Christmas” becomes “Happy Holidays.” Are Scrooges stealing your holiday, or are times changing for the better?
