A writer living in far upstate New York, Bob Torres is author of Making A Killing: The Political Economy of Animal Rights (AK Press, 2007) and co-author (with Jenna Torres) of the popular vegan how-to guide Vegan Freak: Being Vegan in a Non-Vegan World (2nd. ed. forthcoming, PM Press, 2009). Currently, Bob is co-editing a book with Ken Gould entitled Nanotechnology, Social Change, and the Environment (forthcoming, Rowman & Littlefield, 2009) that pulls together contributions from academics and policy-makers to critically query the impacts of nanotech. A former professor and recovering academic, Bob taught sociology for 7 years at universities in New York State after receiving his PhD and MS degrees in Development Sociology from Cornell University and his BA in Philosophy and BS in Agricultural Science from Penn State - University Park. In addition to his published books, Bob’s writings have appeared in Critical Sociology, Social Forces, The Journal of Latinos and Education, The International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health, and Satya magazine, and he has been interviewed on background and quoted in pieces in the New York Times, Newsweek, The Observer, and other major media outlets. Bob is also a general partner in Tofu Hound Press, a small, independent publisher of titles on veganism, animal rights, and related issues. In his free time, he enjoys poking libertarians with pointy rhetorical sticks, running, cooking, and listening to pretty much anything sold at boomkat.com.
