11Teenager Sofia Petrova, Sent To Siberia By Her Mother, Begs To Return Home To U.S.

A rebellious teenager was sent from Virginia to Siberia a few years ago for what she was told was a three-week trip, but she wasn’t allowed to return home.

Sofia Petrova was a 15-year-old freshman at Chantilly High School in Virginia when her mother brought her to the airport and told her she was going on a three-week vacation to Siberia to meet her birth father, according to WUSA9.

However, when she arrived in Siberia, Sofia claims her mother changed the story and said she’d be there for a long time.

In emails sent to WUSA9, Sofia’s mother Natalia Roberts and step-father James described Sofia’s behavior as “uncontrollable.”

It apparently hasn’t been easy in Siberia for Sofia. Mail Online reports that she had to leave her father’s house because he beat her and was often drunk.

She reportedly went to a children’s center, and after being depressed said she tried to kill herself.

She now works 60 hours a week at a hotel where she also lives. According to a letter she wrote to her mother, Sofia is desperate to return to the U.S.

“With all that is going on I really hope that our relationship could improve rather than be completely destroyed to shreds,” Sofia wrote. “I love you so much and I miss you and [her half-sister] Maria. I want to come home. To come back to you. I ask you one more time, please take me back. Please find it in your heart to forgive my mistakes that I made as a pre-teen. You are the only family that I have. I need you.”

Sofia’s parents have not completely ruled out helping her return to the U.S. They told WUSA9 that she needs to recognize her mistakes and show them that her behavior has improved, something that Sofia believes she has already demonstrated.
