The Myrtle Grove Christian School in Wilmington, N.C. is reserving the right to deny admission to any student whose home life opposes the “biblical lifestyle,” specifically anyone who practices or supports “homosexual activity.”
The school released an official statement Wednesday that announced a new school policy. It claims that it’s “leading students to develop a biblical understanding of morality and to pursue a life that is governed by the biblical moral code” and thus families of students enrolling or re-enrolling in the school will have to sign their “Biblical Morality Policy.”
The school’s official statement went on to say:
“For this reason, the school reserves the right, within its sole discretion, to refuse admission of an applicant or to discontinue enrollment of a student if the atmosphere or conduct within a particular home or the activities of the student are counter to or are in opposition to the biblical lifestyle the school teaches. This includes, but is not limited to, participating in, supporting, or affirming sexual immorality, homosexual activity, or bisexual activity; promoting such practices; or being unable to support the moral principles of the school.”
The K-8 school did say that its statement is “certainly not intended as a statement of condemnation. [Myrtle Grove Christian School] is well known as a community of grace, and we freely extend that grace to all of our neighbors.”
The head of the school, Stacey Miller, told WECT the policy will take place with enrollment for the 2014-2015 school year.
In 2012, a state-funded Christian school in New Mexico garnered media attention after admitting a 3-year-old but then taking back their admittance when school officials learned he had two gay fathers. The couple later sued the school.
One parent interviewed by WECT agreed with the Myrtle Grove’s decision, saying that Christian schools should reserve the right to observe policies like this, while another told the station that they were shocked and offended by the new policy.

A new Russian propaganda video, supporting the country’s anti-gay legislation, says that gays and lesbians who become parents do so in order to rape their own children.
The video appeared on YouTube last week, but was taken down at the request of a Spanish gay parenting advocacy organization who claimed that its own material was used in the video without permission.
The Russian parliament is currently considering a bill that would require the state to remove the children of gay parents from their homes and place them in orphanages. The video would appear to be designed to support that proposed law.
"Of course [a lesbian parent] should definitely be deprived of her rights to the child," the author of the bill, lawmaker Alexei Zhuravlev, said. "Homosexuals must not raise children. They corrupt them. They do them much more harm than if the child were in an orphanage. I am deeply convinced of this."
The video claims to support its assertions with data from a controversial study by an American sociologist which concluded that children of gay parents are worse off than those of heterosexual couples. That study, by University of Texas professor Mark Regnerus has been widely criticized for allegedly slipshod methodology and data that does not back up the study’s main conclusions.
Nonetheless, the video claims that one-third of gay parenting couples commit rape against their own children and falsely cites the Regnerus study to support the claim. The study says no such thing.
At a meeting of European leaders last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin (pictured) said that society views gay rape less harshly than heterosexual rape.
His remark came in the context of a “joke” about former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi who recently faced accusations of statutory rape, saying that Berlusconi was being condemned because his alleged sexual misdeeds were againt women.
