Is Fred Phelps and the WBC's protests at funerals legal terrorism?
From Matthew Shepard, to Jerry Falwell to Lance Cpl Matthew Snyder, Fred Phelps and his WBC mob have added to the pain of losing a loved one by staging hateful protests at the funerals. There does not seem to be a way to stop his despicable acts due to freedom of speech.
Is there a way to stop this legally? Maybe not. But at recent protests a positive twist has been added to the presence of "Rev" Phelps. Most recently at the Universsty of Chicago, his presence at a Jewish Center prompted one young man to take donations to the center and for each donation sent Phelps a note stating that a donation had been made in his honor for the center. A mail delivery I would have like to have seen.
The family of fallen Marine Lance Cpl Matthew Snyder actually sued Phelps, initially won and then the verdict was reversed leaving the Snyders to pay over $16,000 in legal fees for Phelps. There is a website for donations to assist this family at: www.matthewsnyder.org.
If you agree that this is wrong, you have an opportunity to show your support by making a donation to that family.
If every arrival of Phelps and WBC turned into a positive situation he might not stop, but it would be a sign that the United States are that, United.
