As they say, anything is possible in free agency, and yes, that includes Donovan McNabb being back with the Philadelphia Eagles. Of course, he’s only working out with his former teammates, he hasn’t actually re-joined the team, although the fact that he got together with his former team for a workout at Power Train followed by agility and weight training at the Memorial Sports Complex, may yet turn out to be a harbinger of things to come. McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins in early 2010, for a second round pick and a conditional 2011 pick.
Lately, he’s been sidelined in Washington by coach Mike Shanahan who preferred to call upon Rex Grossmann’s services instead of his in the last 3 games of the season. That, coupled with the fact that come the end of lockout McNabb will be a free agent, almost certainly means he’ll be on the move again. McNabb downplayed the covert significance of his Philadelphia workout. He said he happened to be in the area, fulfilling some obligations of a different nature and he thought it would be a good idea to work out with a great group of guys to shake off a bit of the lockout rust. He also offered props to the Power Train guys.

His former teammates enjoyed the light mood he brought with him into the workout. Whatever happens come the end of the lockout, McNabb says he’s in an excellent shape and he will continue getting better. Aged 34, he is still the franchise leader for the Eagles in several statistics. Although some of the Philly fans insist he is not a good fit for the team, and that if they let him go once they’ll probably do it again, under the right alignment of celestial bodies, he may still land back with the Eagles, although the chances of that happening are rather slim indeed.
