Zambrano Throws Marmol Under The Cubs Team Bus

For the second day in a row Albert Pujols hit a walk-off home run to beat the Chicago Cubs. For the second start in a row Carlos Zambrano watched when he thought was a win, go by the wayside.

‘‘The problem wasn’t Pujols,’’ Zambrano said. ‘‘The problem was the previous at-bat [in the ninth]. We should know better than this. We played like a Triple-A team. This is embarrassing, embarrassing for the team, for the owners, embarrassing for the fans. Embarrassing. That’s the word here for this team.’’

Then came the attack directed at fellow pitcher Carlos Marmol, ‘‘We should know better than this. We should know that Ryan Theriot is not a good fastball hitter. We should know that as a team. We should play better here. We stink. That’s all I’ve got to say.” Then just before he walked away Zambrano added, ‘‘We’re a Triple-A team.”

Big Z takes a big step back in my book here as a leader. My big problem with Zambrano is not that he went off on a rant and not that he threw his teammate under the bus. My problem is that after he said, “That’s all I’ve got to say”, he continued on and added one more thing. That’s awful ranting technique. That’s like losing your car keys, looking for them, finding them, and then looking for them one more place after finding them.

Tim Lincecum Looks To Join Pitching Elite

Lincecum needs five strikeouts Monday night against the Washington Nationals to become the eighth pitcher in baseball’s modern era (since 1900) to amass 1,000 strikeouts in his first five Major League seasons. The pitchers already in this fraternity are, Tom Seaver, Bert Blyleven, Dwight Gooden, Kerry Wood, Grover Cleveland Alexander, Hideo Nomo, and Mark Langtson.
