Woman Accused Of Suffocating Babies Fathered By Her Dad

Married French woman Dominique Cottrez is currently on trial after she reportedly suffocated eight of her newborn babies that she feared were the result of an incestuous relationship with her father.

Cottrez’s is the worst infanticide case in modern French history, according to the Daily Mail.

The 51-year-old told investigators that her obesity prevented her husband from noticing any of the eight pregnancies, The Guardian reports. Her children, neighbors, colleagues and even doctors at a nearby hospital never knew about them.

The remains of Cottrez’s infants were found in 2010 after new homeowners moved into her old home and were attempting to dig a duck pond. While digging, they discovered the remains of two babies in hermetically-sealed bags.

During an investigation into Cottrez’s new home, authorities discovered six other babies hidden in her house.

According to Cottrez, she was first raped by her father at the age of 8. The relationship continued into her childhood and teenage years, then again later as an adult, the judicial documents note. Cottrez added that the relationship became consensual and that she was more in love with her father than her husband.

Cottrez was charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder of minors. If found guilty, she could face life in prison.

Forensic and psychiatric experts are expected to testify on Thursday. Cottrez’s husband, daughters and siblings are also scheduled to testify.

The verdict is expected next Thursday.
