A Spanish man known for his compulsive hoarding was reportedly found dead on April 6 after he was crushed under a pile of his stuff.

Police in Vigo, Galicia, received a call from a woman concerned about her friend who hadn’t used Facebook or WhatsApp in six days, The Local reports. The 51-year-old man lived alone and reportedly suffered from Diogenes syndrome, which is associated with compulsive hoarding of garbage.

When officers arrived at the man’s home they found enormous piles of garbage outside.

"It was something out of the ordinary," officers told local newspaper Faro de Vigo, according to The Local.

The man’s body was discovered between a heap of trash and a door to the house. The piles of garbage made it almost impossible to enter the building and firefighters were called to retrieve the man’s body.

Officers believe one pile of trash fell on the man and he was unable to get out. An autopsy will be performed in the near future.
