A Japanese father stabbed his 12-year-old son to death for not studying for a school entrance exam.

Kengo Satake, 48, had been arguing with his son, Ryota, for not studying for an entrance exam to a prestigious private junior high school, Time reports.

Ryota died from loss of blood after being taken to the hospital, reports Agence France-Presse. Once doctors saw what happened, they notified police.

Kengo told police he had stabbed his son with a kitchen knife "by mistake." He claimed they were arguing about the boy not studying, an argument they had many times in the past.
