Popular Bird In Chinese Zoo 'Resembles' Trump

| by Denise Recalde

Chinese media are touting the "striking similarity" between the hairstyle of a specific species of Chinese pheasant and that of President-elect Donald Trump.

Pictures of the Hangzhou Safari Park fowl were widely shared in Chinese media after a picture of a specimen bird from Zhejiang province caught the attention of local tourists and media representatives.

The male Golden Pheasant, known as "Little Red" for its bright red chest feathers and bright yellow head, is drawing more local visitors to the Zoo, Mashable reports.

The famous bird co-exists with 50 other fowls in the zoo, but is considered the most striking of his colorful group in the safari park, The Sun reports.

The Safari Park's keeper, Mr. Gao, said he hadn't perceived the similarity to the future U.S. president.

"I had not noticed the likeness in the past because I had not paid particular attention to the pheasant’s hairstyle," he said.

"But after Trump was elected President of America, I start seeing more pictures of him and I think the pheasant looks a little bit like him."

Gao expressed hope the bird would attract more visitors to the park.

Little Red's species, widely known as the Chinese pheasant, is native to the mountains of central China. Males sport a bright scarlet body and golden crest and a specimen can reach a length, from beak to tail, of about 3.2 feet.

A Chinese user on Weibo asked: "So does this bird look like Trump, or does Trump look like a Chinese pheasant?"

Another user replied: "Come on, this bird is more handsome than Trump."

In another taunt, a Chinese observer said the resemblance to Trump goes beyond the bird's head plumage: "Not only does the pheasant’s appearance looks like Trump, its facial expression looks like Trump’s too.

"Look at its eyes, they are very similar [to Trump’s]. The only difference is the man doesn’t have a beak."
