ADanish teen who killed her own mother after watching ISIS beheading videos has been sentenced to nine years in prison.
Lisa Borch, now 16 years old, will serve nine years in prison for killing her mother, Tina Romer Holtegaard, in October 2014. Borch was originally sentenced in September 2015, and the Western High Court upheld the lower court's ruling on Jan. 28, TheLocal.dk reports.
Her 29-year-old boyfriend and accomplice, Bakhtiar Mohammed Adbulla, an Iraqi refugee, was sentenced to 13 years in prison, plus permanent expulsion from Denmark.
Borch and Abdulla stabbed Holtegaard at least 20 times after Borch had reportedly spent several hours watching ISIS beheading videos on YouTube, including the decapitations of Alan Henning and David Haines, the Daily Mail notes.
Popular VideoThis young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true.
Borch’s sentence is reportedly the longest sentence a teenager has received in Denmark.
During the initial trial, the teen said she became radicalized after watching propaganda for ISIS online. She also claimed that the idea to kill her mother was entirely Abdulla’s, adding that she only confessed to the crime out of fear of her boyfriend.
Jens Holtegaard, Borch’s stepfather, came forward after her conviction and told local media outlet Ekstra Bladet that his stepdaughter was obsessed with ISIS but that she wasn’t a radical Islamist.
“Her radicalization is something that only exists in her head,” Jens said, according to TheLocal.dk. “She could have just as easily been attracted to the biker gang environment or some other extreme.”
