A U.K. teaching assistant has evaded jail time despite confessing to having sex with a teenage student.

Caroline Berriman, 30, admitted to having sex with one of the male students during her time as a teaching assistant at Abraham Moss Community School in Manchester, England, the Manchester Evening News reports.

The court was told of at least two sexual acts that the pair participated in last year. Berriman was fully aware that the boy wasn’t 16 and that he couldn’t legally consent. Following the allegations, Berriman was suspended from school and later left her job altogether.

“Safeguarding pupils is a number one priority for us and we take it extremely seriously,” Abraham Moss Headteacher Gillian Houghton said. “This person was suspended as soon as the allegations came to light and no longer works at the school.”

Berriman pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child and a sexual activity charge specifying she was in a position of trust. St her sentencing this week, she was fined $152, ordered to complete 250 community work hours, and given a restraining order against seeing the boy.

She was also given a two year sentence, but it was suspended for two years, meaning that she will not have to serve jail time.

The unnamed teenager has since left the school.
