A pregnant dog was rescued after being buried alive underground for two days.

Three weeks ago, in the Russian city of Voronezh, pavement collapsed outside of a home and left a massive hole in the ground. The dog subsequently made its way beneath the rubble and became trapped in the hole, RT reported. Builders who were hired to fix the hole were reportedly unaware of the dog’s presence and sealed her inside for two days.

In a video of the rescue (shown below), the home’s owner is seen frantically removing portions of the pavement in an attempt to get to the pregnant dog, after hearing its cries coming from beneath the sealed concrete.

After removing several stones from the pavement, the dog’s face appears and the digging continues. Eventually, the dog is pulled from the rubble and jumps to her feet.

“We were shocked,” Aleksandra, the homeowner’s wife, told local news outlet Bloknot-Voronezh. “We rushed to ask the neighbors what had happened. They only told us that the workers had fixed the hole.”

Aleksandra noted that her and her husband Vadim had been away for two days, and when they returned home, they heard the dog's barks.

She added that she doesn’t believe workers failed to notice the dog.

“The workers probably just didn't want to make an effort and retrieve the animal. The neighbors also proved to be indifferent.” she said. “They understood the poor creature got trapped. But who wants to waste their time, getting their hands dirty? No one cared."

The dog was subsequently taken to a rescue shelter to recover.
