Hundreds of men put on miniskirts and marched in Amsterdam on Jan. 16 to show their solidarity with the female victims who were sexually assaulted and robbed in Cologne, Germany, and other cities on New Year’s Eve (video below).

Women joined the male protesters, one of whom held a sign that read: “Sexual abuse is not a [woman's] problem,” notes RT.

The organizers of the rally wrote on the Facebook page: “Too often sexual violence against women is put down as a [woman’s] problem: Don’t wear short skirts. That is never the solution. Short skirts are not at fault.”

“Therefore we are reversing the [roles] and we celebrate the skirt and the freedom that goes with it. We deploy our hairy knees for a free society in which women can walk the streets undisturbed, day and night, on short-skirt day or in the middle of the winter.”

The men were protesting Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker’s controversial remarks after the women were sexually assaulted, reported NL Times.

According to Breitbart, Reker said on Jan. 5: "The women and young girls have to be more protected in the future so these things don’t happen again. This means, they should go out and have fun, but they need to be better prepared, especially with the Cologne carnival coming up. For this, we will publish online guidelines that these young women can read through to prepare themselves."

On New Year's Eve, German police received more than 500 complaints, with nearly 40 percent about women being molested, reports RT.

Police said some of the attackers were of “Arab of North African origin,” which has triggered an anti-immigrant sentiment in  the country.
