A mass shooting has occurred at a movie theater in Viernheim, Germany.

An armed man reportedly entered the cinema on June 23 at approximately 3 p.m. local time and fired a shot in the air before barricading himself inside, according to KTLA.  The shooter has allegedly wounded 25 people so far, according to German public TV.

According to CNN, mass shootings are rare in Germany.  But in 2002, a gunman opened fire at a high school in Erfurt, killing 16 people: 13 staff members, two students, and a police officer.

Also in 2009, a gunman dressed in military gear killed 15 people in a spree that started at a school and spanned two small towns near Stuttgart.
