Lion Hunter's Death Is Celebrated On Social Media

| by Michael Allen

Luciano Ponzetto, a 55-year-old lion hunter, recently died after taking a 100-foot fall down a ravine near Turin, Italy.

Officials said the big game hunter slipped on some ice while shooting wild birds with some friends, notes The Sun.

Ponzetto became infamous when he posted a picture of himself with a dead lion, and other big cats that he killed, on Facebook. As a result, he received hate mail, death threats and lost his medical director job at a kennel in 2015.

However, he was defiant of his critics: "I am being criticized by people who do not know me, I have always loved my work and I have always loved animals. I will carry on hunting until the law changes."

A spokesman for the Italian police recalled Ponzetto's death, noted The Sun:

We were called by the mountain rescue services who had been alerted to the incident by someone who was out with him. His body was recovered by helicopter and taken to a local hospital. It looks like he slipped and fell when he was out hunting. He died instantly and there was nothing that could be done.

The British tabloid reported one more comment on social media: "I don’t quite see how this man could have worked as a vet and then happily gone out and killed animals. He should have had more respect."
