A convicted child rapist has been killed and his girlfriend seriously injured after they were struck by a van in north Wales in the U.K.
Ryan Draper, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene in the early hours of July 30, according to Daily Mail.
Draper and his unnamed partner were walking along a country road around 12:45 a.m. when a 42-year-old driver struck them. The woman was taken to hospital with severe injuries, which were described as life changing.
The driver escaped with minor injuries and was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving. However, he was granted bail pending further investigation.
“Both Hilary and David Draper, and his brother Joshua are deeply saddened at the loss of our loving son Ryan who was tragically and suddenly taken from us,” Draper’s parents said in a statement, the Mail reported.
“We loved him so much and he will always be in our hearts,” it added.
Draper’s girlfriend was reportedly in critical condition.
In 2011, Ryan Draper was arrested for and convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl.
“You gratified yourself, you used no protection and showed a total disregard for her,” Judge Niclas Parry told Draper as he handed down a five-year sentence.
Draper was also placed on the sex offender register for life and is banned from contacting the victim.
Police investigations into the collision are ongoing.
“Our investigation is ongoing and the family of Mr. Draper are being supported by a specially-trained Family Liaison Officer,” added Sergeant Jason Diamond.
Tributes to Draper were left at the scene, Mirror reported.
