Melanie Hughes, former beauty queen and actress, has died at the age of 39.

Hughes, who won the Miss Wales title in 1997, died suddenly on Oct. 9, reports the Daily Post.

She was described as a "kind, gentle and lovely soul" by her husband, Rick.

“Mel was so kindhearted and had time for absolutely everyone," he said. “We are absolutely devastated at the loss of such a wonderful spirit and will never ever forget her."

Her notoriety as Miss Wales landed her acting parts on the popular British television programs "Coronation Street" and "Cold Feet."

"Coronation Street" is the longest running UK soap opera, having been on the air for over fifty years, notes Mirror.

"Cold Feet," which has been compared to the U.S. show "Friends," is described by The Guardian as "one of the defining TV shows of late 20th- and early-21st-century Britain."

Hughes leaves behind a 3-year-old son, Kaden, reports Metro. "Kaden doted on his [mommy]," Rick explained. "He is asking where [she] is."

The mourning husband spoke of the family's recent trip to an iconic American amusement park.

"We had a holiday of a lifetime two months ago in Disney World Florida with my family and I am so glad we did as that has so many pictures with so many memories," he said. "Mel was better looking than all the Disney Princesses and she will always be my Miss Wales."

He also reflected on their life together.

"We got engaged at the Trevi Fountain in Rome a few years later and married in June 2011 at Greenfield Church," he explained. "The honeymoon was in Mauritius where Mel’s mum, Jotee, is from and obviously all of Jotee’s family. Mel had never been to Mauritius so made perfect sense to have our honeymoon there. We stayed at a hotel but had different days meeting Mel’s beautiful Mauritian family who she had never met. It’s an experience I will treasure."

In the last 15 years, she had been working at the energy conservation firm Kingspan in Greenfield, reports Metro.

She was one of 11,000 employees of the global company, which was founded in 1965 and specializes in creating energy-efficient buildings, according to the corporate website.  The company makes the bold claim that by 2020, it will operate exclusively on renewable energy.

The beauty queen's demise reportedly came as a total shock without warning, and the cause of her death has not yet been confirmed.
