Paid Woman Tries To Smuggle 8-Year-Old Boy Into Spain From Morocco

A 19-year-old woman was stopped at the border of Morocco and Spain on Thursday at around 12 p.m. after the x-ray machine showed that a human was in her suitcase. Customs officials scanned the luggage and found an 8-year-old boy from sub-Saharan Africa.

Mirror reported that police became suspicious of the woman after she appeared to be nervous, Mirror reports. They pulled her out of the line, believing that she was attempting to smuggle drugs into Spain.

The incident happened in Cueta, which is a Spanish territory connected to Morocco. A spokesman from the Spanish Civil Guard said, “This could have had a tragic end.”

A man from the Ivory Coast, who was identified as the boy’s father, has been arrested after he tried to get through the same checkpoint less than two hours later.

According to Inquisitr, a woman from the Canary Islands has also admitted to being the boy’s mother.

The boy is currently in the custody of social services.

Police believe the woman carrying the suitcase was paid to smuggle the boy.
