A 13-year-old girl in the West Bank was stabbed to death when a Palestinian man reportedly snuck into her home.

Hallel Yaffa Ariel, 13, who lived in the Kiryat Arba Jewish settlement in the West Bank with her family, was killed when a Palestinian attacker broke into her home on June 30 and stabbed the young girl in her bed, AFP reports. Ariel, in critical condition, was taken to a hospital in Jerusalem where she died from her wounds.

The Palestinian health ministry identified the man who carried out the attack as Mohammed Nasser Tarayra, 19. Tarayra is from Bani Naim, a village outside of Hebron.

Bani Naim has been sealed off, and authorities are beginning procedures for Tarayra's home to be demolished. Israeli work permits for members of his immediate family have been revoked. Tarayra's father was arrested by soldiers enforcing the lockdown in the village.

Tarayra is reported to have attacked Ariel while she slept. The Israeli military released a picture of her bedroom, which was covered in blood. Security guards for the settlement chased Tarayra after he triggered an electronic system while hopping the fence at the scene.

Tarayra stabbed one of the guards before he was shot dead. The guard he stabbed was in serious condition, according to Haaretz.

Before the attack, Tarayra had posted to Facebook praising similar terror attacks against Israelis. He posted praise for a Palestinian woman who rammed into a car in Kiryat Arba, calling her a martyr. "Jerusalem is proud of you," he wrote in the post.

Tarayra's friends and family members said his posts on social media had become more extreme after his cousin was killed after carrying out a similar car ramming attack in March.

"The horrifying murder of a young girl in her bed underscores the bloodlust and inhumanity of the incitement-driven terrorists that we are facing," said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a statement.

"The entire nation deeply identifies with the family's pain and declares to the murderers: 'You will not break us,'" added Netanyahu.
