Willie Nelson's Gift for Sheriff Who Busted him for Pot

| by NORML
Just a couple of weeks the Hudspeth County sheriff was arresting 77-year-old country music legend Willie Nelson for the bag o’ weed he had on his tour bus as it passed through a Border Patrol checkpoint outside Sierra Blanca, Texas.
Now Willie, in true Christmas spirit, has used the attention his arrest has generated to help the sheriff’s annual toy drive.  As posted at WillieNelson.com:

Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office every year takes donations to buy gifts for our school kids in Sierra Blanca ISD, Fort Hancock ISD and Dell City ISD, on December 13, 2010 Santa Clause [sic] will fly to each school and deliver the gifts. We would greatly appreciate your support.

Make your donation in the Willie Nelson name so that they know how much we support Willie.

Let not mankind bogart love, indeed, Willie*.

According to Rolling Stone, the sheriff is surprised at all the fuss. ”He had a little bag of marijuana and I would never have dreamed of the coverage it got,” said Chief Deputy Mike Doyal. “Nonetheless, we’ve got a job to do and we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do.”

*Sadly, the video of Willie Nelson and Stephen Colbert singing “Little Dealer Boy” from “A Colbert Christmas” is no longer online, but you can read the lyrics here.
