Why is Marijuana Still Illegal?
According to Rasmussen Reports, a majority of Americans believe that alcohol is more dangerous than marijuana:
Pot or not, that is the question.
Fifty-one percent (51%) of American adults say alcohol is more dangerous than marijuana, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Just 19% disagree and say pot is worse.
But 25% say both are equally dangerous. Just two percent (2%) say neither is dangerous.
Younger adults are more likely than their elders to view alcohol as the more dangerous of the two.
Fifty-three percent (53%) of women say alcohol is more dangerous than marijuana, compared to 48% of men. Men by a two-to-one margin over women say pot is riskier, but women are more inclined to say both are dangerous.
Unmarried adults are more critical of alcohol than those who are married. Those with children at home think alcohol is more dangerous than those without kids living with them.
So why are pot users still being tossed into jail?
There are lots of good reasons why people shouldn’t use drugs. But making drug use illegal only compounds the social consequences, turning a moral and health problem into a legal and criminal problem. The result is the worst of both worlds: all of the problems of drug use plus all of the problems of prohibition. Unfortunately, those consequences flow overseas, further undermining fragile societies such as Afghanistan, Colombia, and Mexico and ultimately American security objectives as well.
It’s time to call off the Drug War.

But what is the answer?
I am 60. Most of my friends in HS smoked Marijuana. My generation saw nothing wrong with smoking pot. So why when my generation got into power didn't we legalize pot? What happened to all the values we fought for in the 60s?
MONEY
When the Pharmaceutical companies can synthesize and make a pill that they can sell, even though it will probably have a side effect of possible death, they will not be able to sell many if you can grow a safer medicine ,in your yard. That is exactly why it remains illegal.
The pharmaceutical companies are responsible for the directive to the ONDCP that states he must insure that no studies supporting
medical marijuana are allowed, and if any studies show marijuana is a medicine,he is to use any means necessary to fight legalization of marijuana, including lies, false studies and propaganda.
And the legislators listen to the people that put the dollars in their pockets, not to their constituents.
Marinol
The pharmaceutical companies have synthesized thc,for nausea and glaucoma. Marinol has been listed as the cause of death for four people, with a very small user base.
They are trying to develop a cancer blocking pill now,but they are having trouble trying to keep it safe.
All of the compounds and chemicals in marijuana act with and against each other in ways they have not been able to synthesize and their attempts to isolate and produce a safe medicine from it have failed. So far.
Marijuana has 0 deaths ,with a user base in the billions, world wide.
Marinol?
Some people argue that THC should be legal in natural form also. Many states of this great country disagree. What would you say if your doctor told you that marijuana could help your condition and nothing else would? Then he goes on to prescribe you a narcotic pain medication that will at least give you painful withdrawal effects and in some cases cause a lifelong addiction to said narcotics. Weed is not a gateway drug. Any idiot that would consider weed to be a gateway drug does not understand the severe drug problem that we have in the United States. A person that wants to acquire a drug can at almost any time with the right amount of money. Legalizing marijuana would be one less way for these drug dealers to make profit and continue their business.
Sir. I guess my question to you is this: "What is a safe medication for a cancer pataient or a patient suffering from AIDS or glaucoma?"
