Atheism is the lack of belief in a deity, which implies that nothing exists but natural phenomena (matter), that thought is a property or function of matter, and that death irreversibly and totally terminates individual organic units. This definition means that there are no forces, phenomena, or entities which exist outside of or apart from physical nature, or which transcend nature, or are “super” natural, nor can there be. Humankind is on its own...................................................Religion In the history of the world, nothing has been the catalyst of more grief, hatred, war, and crime than religion. Religion allows a person to hate, kill, torture, or steal, while allowing him to recuse himself of all blame. Religion causes people to break the laws of ethics and morality in the name of a god..........................................Atheism, the absence of religion, is the only "ism" that obeys the laws of physics. There is never a "well, you have to have faith about that part" in atheism. Nowhere in atheism is there a text that must be obeyed, or a preacher that knows the "one true way." In atheism, "God did it" is not acceptable, but "I don't know" is just fine -- because that's the truth.

John Loftus wrote this book and it is the most comprehensive book I have ever seen on atheism and biblical contradictions and immoralities.
Highly recommended

Atheism, as I've always said, is a religion.

Finally a borg said it's true.

I was also going to point that problem out - the way that the title question is phrased does imply that atheism is a religion.

Although this does not prove that atheism is a religion (sorry j-jammer) it does prove that atheists are capable of making mistakes ( not that that should have been in any doubt in the first place)

use to not be a religion.

But actions of the majority for the past two years proves otherwise.

Groups change. NAACP use to be a great group of people helping out to set things right. Now they are just vultures and ambulance chasers.

If you don't have a set direction to head in, then the majority will take over and force the direction.

You believe atheist is not a religion and treat it as such when you speak to people and in your dealings....as does others that think like you, but you're no longer the majority. If you were, there wouldn't be so many questions circling how it's acting like a religion.

I enjoy atheist for many reasons, but just like annoying little kindergartners....I don't enjoy all of them.

Atheism, the absence of religion.

The (pretty much only) distinguishing feature of religion is that it is based on faith (the assertion of something without evidence). Atheism as me, Dawkins, and pretty much just about every other atheist I know would say that atheism is the absence of faith, not another flavor of it. Atheism is a religion like not collecting stamps is a hobby.
