Westboro Baptist Church to Protest Elizabeth Edwards Funeral

Proving once again that they have no shame, members of the Westboro Baptist Church plan to picket the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards.

In a statement, the Kansas-based church said

"God hates Elizabeth Edwards. Flee her example."

According to the church's news release, members will gather in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday 45 minutes prior to the funeral to rally against Edwards for issues relating to her personal life that are deemed offensive by the church. They did not specify what those issues are.

The church has gained international infamy for protesting at the funerals of soldiers killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, carrying such signs as "God Hates Fags" and other pleasantries.

The U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments earlier this year as to whether the church has the right to protest at the funerals under the free speech protections of the First Amendment.

Edwards died on Tuesday after a long battle with breast cancer at the age of 61.
