West Hollywood: 1st City in World to Ban Fur?

| by PETA

If a group called Fur Free WeHo gets its way, West Hollywood, California, will soon become the nation's (and possibly the world's) first fur-free city.

The group is proposing a ban on all fur sales within the city, whose chic boutique district already boasts a fabulous, fur-free Stella McCartney store.

"West Hollywood has the opportunity to once again be a leader for animal welfare by becoming the first fur-free city in the nation," said City Council candidate John D'Amico. "We have pledged to be a place that is free of cruelty to animals and we can no longer support the barbaric fur trade by selling the products of that cruelty in our city."

The move would continue West Hollywood's strong animal rights tradition: It has already prohibited pet stores from selling animals who come from puppy mills and banned declawing, cosmetics testing on animals, and steel-jaw traps.

What do you think would be a good slogan for the first fur-free city? Here's mine (which I borrowed from the Brit band Blur): "West Hollywood: Woo Hoo!"
