In a perfect world, workout apparel would be magical. The minute we’d slip it on, we’d immediately transform into super-human workout machines that could rock routines in a single bound. Unfortunately, we live in a world of trial- and-error apparel. Lucky for ya’ll, we don’t have a problem trying stuff out in the name of fitness. This go around, Jenn and I are going butt-to-butt with Champion and Shabby Apple apparel to see what measures up and which ones fall, for better lack of words, short.
Side Crow Pose Short
I had the opportunity to try a really pretty pair of grey and white shorts from Shabby Apple called the Side Crow Pose Short . While the fabric is comfy and it offers a band for the bloated days when my belly button wants to hide, it is a wedgie magnet FOR REAL. I wore the shorts on three different occasions: I ran in them, I took a weight lifting class in them and then I also wore them for some Pilates action. Each time the gathering commenced, a frown would form. I don’t enjoy wedgies during my workouts, especially when the wedgies don’t discriminate and hit the back and the front!
If you’re a gym bunny and you’re not doing a lot of bends and turns, then by all means grab the shorts. You’ll be the prettiest gal in the gym. They sell for $30, which is pretty reasonable considering he nice material and all. BUT, if you’re the type that sticks to the function-over-form creed, then I’d pass on this one.
I own and love about 20 Champion brand sports bras (my downfall is Target shopping, obviously), so when the company asked us to try some of their other apparel, I eagerly agreed. I got to try the Double-Dry Training Knee Pant (really, more like a long short though), and I loved how it felt. A lot of moisture-wicking workout gear is kind of rough or uncomfortable, but not this stuff. It was soft, movable and with mesh insets on the sides you stay cool. The length of the short also made me feel like a kick-ass basketball player, which is always fun. And at $30 a pair, they won’t break the bank.

The look though? Eh. Not flattering on me. If you’re tall and thin as a rail, you can probably rock them. If you’re a touch on the shorter side, you can probably wear them as capris. But for a muscular 5-foot 7-inches gal like me? Well, I just look weird. The upside though? Champion also sent me a Double-Dry Training Tank and that my friends, is the perfect technical tank for any gal—of any size and stature!
