Transgender child inspires thousands. Though she was born a boy, Jazz Jennings identified as female when she was a toddler. At 5 years old, her parents allowed her to fully transition. Jazz uses hormone blockers to keep testosterone from developing, and takes estrogen to help her develop feminine traits. She’s even written a book about her experience and has a show on TLC. LGBT children without familial support face a higher risk for depression and suicide. The Center for Transyouth Health and Development currently sees around 600 transgender patients aged 3 to 25.
