K9s For Warriors Helps Veterans Cope With PTSD

Roughly 31% of all returning veterans suffer from PTSD, and 22 U.S. veterans commit suicide every day. K9s for Warriors is determined to help these veterans cope with their invisible injuries. These dogs are trained to recognize stress and wake veterans from nightmares. They even remind veterans when to take their medication. Most service dogs are rescues from local shelters, and can be fully trained in just about 6 months’ time. Some professionals think nonprofits like these could be the next big step in fighting PTSD at home.
